AfroFlow is a project of MIKE-E, a multi-faceted international spoken word and hip-hop recording artist/stage and screen actor/ nationally recognized spokesperson and model/philanthropist and missionary/ youth motivator and activist. He is a rare repeat performer on the critically acclaimed HBO’s Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam and led the Detroit Slam Team to the 2002 National Slam Poetry Championship. As an internationally recognized artist, MIKE-E enjoys country-wide recognition in Ethiopia where his single and video Ethiopia (Everything Will Be All Right) is the countries un-official national anthem.
MIKE-E’s roots are buried deep in Africa as is evident in the work he does for Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association (ENAHPA), the non-profit organization, which works to improve healthcare in Ethiopia by providing food, clothing, and shelter, financial and educational assistance to orphaned Ethiopian children. Mike travels several times a year to his homeland to make a difference. He also works with the Detroit Public Schools and Motown Center Detroit USA on their Education Program which created recording labels run by students at two Detroit High Schools. Mike serves as lead facilitator as he motivates the students and teaches the finer points of lyricism and artistry. His anti-tobacco stance has brought him to the attention of the American Cancer Society and allowed him to bring his unwavering and impactful performances for the Congressional Black Caucus and History Black Colleges and Universities across the country.
As a spokesperson and model, MIKE-E has appeared in the pages of every top urban lifestyle magazine on newsstands, The Source, Vibe, XXL, Slam, King, Complex, and Rolling Out, in national ads. A journalist for Detroit’s Metro Times recently wrote, “He looks like a model, talks like an activist…he’s the type of cat folks get mad at just for having the whole package. But dude’s too focused to pay attention.”
In conjunction the AfroFlow the tour, MIKE-E will be releasing his ground breaking debut album, AfroFlow. The seventeen song disc features a collection of songs and tracks that will have the world saying, “He’s ten times platinum and yet you don’t know him…yet!” Ten times platinum is how MIKE-E describes the fulfillment he experienced in Ethiopia when ten children emerged from the Nile river singing his song and screaming his affectionate Ethiopian nickname the nation has given him, “Micky, Micky, … Micky #1!” The AfroFlow album is scheduled to drop digitally late February, with exclusive advance copies available at all tour stops.
